Cruising on The Yangtze River
After a few days in Chongqing's smog, I got a boat on the Yangtze river for a cruise to the Three Gorges Dam. Alot of people rave about how beautiful they are - I thought they were ok - definately worth seeing but not as breathtaking as one might think.

After the boat trip, I stayed in Yichang overnight and then got on a tour bus the following morning for the tour of the dam. I have to say this was one of the most difficult parts of the whole trip. Barely anybody spoke english and of course I had no chinese. There was absolutely no english anywhere - no english signs, menus etc. It was next to impossible to get around - luckily my stay here was short so I was looking forward to my trip to Shanghai.

The Three Gorges Dam certainly didn't disappoint - It is Enormous. Not only is the Dam a massive project in itself but the network of roads, bridges , tunnels constructed just to access the dam is unbelievable.
How big is the dam…? Just to give an idea of the size, the electricity generating capacity of the “Three Gorges” is about 10 times that of the Hoover Dam in the U.S. or 20 times the output of Moneypoint in Ireland. Its BIG! Places like the Hoover Dam / Moneypoint are enormous in their own right so this puts the scale of the Three Gorges Dam in perspective.
