A quick flight down to Melbourne and to Australia's second city. Legend has it that at one point there was a dispute between Sydney and Melbourne about which city should be the capital to resolve the issue, ACT (Australian Capital Territory) was established as the capital territory of the Commonwealth of Australia. Melbourne is known for its restaurants and Cafes. I was surprised by the weather but locals told me it was typically changeable - very warm one day, cooler and raining the next.
I toured the city and also took a trip along "The Great Ocean Road". This road, set up as a project to provide work for troops returning from World War 1 was constructed along the southern Victoria coastline, heading from Melbourne, west towards Adelaide. The views are absolutely fabulous along this route, looking out over the Ocean. For some reason I found it a bit eerie looking south....out there somewhere was Tasmania but after that, next stop was Antarctica....certainly a reminder if one needed it that you are down under and a long way from home. Sites along the great ocean road included....twelve apostles, London bridge and Bells Beach - Australia's most famous surfing beach. Next onto Ireland for the Christmas festivities.
