Kanchanaburi, Central Thailand
My next stop was the province of Kanchanaburi, in Central Thailand. I stayed in the Provincial Capital, (Same name as province) and from there did a few tours. We visited Death Railway (Thai Burma Railway) and the "Bridge on The River Kwai" which was featured in a famous British World War 2 Movie. Built by the Japanese in World War II, forced labor was used during construction and an estimated 16,000 Allied POWs died during construction. We also did some elephant trekking and hiked up Erawan Waterfall.
I also took a day to do a Thai cooking course - I ate what I cooked and survived to tell the tale. The course started in the morning with a trip to the local market to buy all the ingredients. This is typical in rural Thailand as they rarely use refrigeration etc. so they have to get their food fresh daily.
