Day 3 October 18th2009

Texas Adventure

Today is day 3 of my Texas Adventure. Today I leave this fine city of Dallas and go to San Antonio, Texas to see the Alamo.

I leave the hotel very early today before breakfast around 6am or so. I set the GPS for the address of my hotel in San Antonio. I head off the road and venture onto I 35 which would be my main route to San Antonio. I good ride in the vehicle, the tunes are on to the local country music stations. It is a good drive all the way to San Antonio, I keep going and its hard to explain the drive. Really not much to say about the drive. I pass through a few communities from Waco and Austin Texas.

After a few hours I make a quick bathroom stop outside of San Antonio.

Trolley Car
Thank goodness I made that stop. It may be need for my concentration when I arrive into the city of San Antonio. As I Am getting into the main city the road I am supposed to follow is closed so I have to improvise a detour to get to the main centre. I make my way around the detour and get near the hotel area. I drive and end up being around the downtown area. My GPS is going a bit wile now so I have to improvise my route and just use good old paper map. Finally after a few wrong circles I end up in this really run down neighbourhood. With all these boarded up I make my way to the Travelodge and park the car. I did not realize I Am staying in a very Shady area of town. Many hoodlums are all hanging out in the parking lot here. I go to check in this place and the front desk girl is on the phone yelling at her boyfriend or someone, quite classy. I decide to stay here as it is only one night. I leave my motel and make my walk first thing to the Alamo. It is amazing to finally see this great piece of history.
Proof of being there - The Alamo
One of those things you see on TV and finally being here in person is priceless. Here is a bit of information from Wikipedia.

The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 March 6, 1836) was a pivotal point in the Texas Revolution. Following a twelve-day siege, Mexican troops under the President of Mexico General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission in San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas).

The Alamo
All but two of the Texian defenders were killed. Santa Anna's perceived cruelty during the battle inspired many Texiansboth Texas settlers and adventurers from the United Statesto join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto several weeks later, ending the revolution.

I then go to a nice Irish Pub here for a later Lunch. I go have some Texan Lonestar beer and a burger. It is one of the best burgers I have eaten and watch NFL on TV at same time.

After lunch I make my way walking around the River walk. Its is very neat. Here is a list of some of the things I went to see that day.

1.

On BroadWay Ave
San Antonio downtown from the Tower of The Americas at night.
2. The River walk
3. The McNay Museum of Art
4. The Tower Life Building
5. Bexar County courthouse
6. San Antonio Public Library
7. The Tower of the Americas at night

8. The Alamo

I walk around this exciting place and take in all the historical areas of this fine city. It can be a bit rough out of the main tourist areas, but overall worth checking out.

There are no words to describe the excitement of this area. I will show you the goods through photos, as picture can tell you a 1000 words.

Anyways that is what I did in the day time.

In the evening I ended up going back to the Riverwalk area and went for some Wings and Beer at the Hooters by the river. Good place to hang on a quite Sunday night.

I then head back to my motel and decide it will be early start in the morning.

During the night I could not get any sleep .

Fancy Hotel
From midnight to 330 in the morning, this one couple were on the parking lot and screaming and yelling at each other non-stop for many many hours. It was a bad situation as both people were saying very violent things to one another. Finally I hear this loud voice by some guy in the motel who says he will take his Gun and Pop the two of them if they continue to yell. They do stop yelling after that.

I decide around at 5 am to leave this place as I had enough, I go to check out. On check out at the front desk. The funniest thing happens, the guy working the front desk is Mexican. Now I am not trying to offend anyone here. The Mexican guy name on his Nametag was actually Taco. Very funny. Anyways I check out that morning and check out my blog for the next day. Stay Tuned!

Sorry that you had such a rough experience in the wrong part of town. You should have checked with me before booking. My daughter graduated from San Antonio and I know that town very well. May be next time. Yes, riverwalk is my favorite specially at night. Many couples get married on the small bridge that connects both sides. http://www.thesanantonioriverwalk.com/photos/index.asp

I am glad you liked The Alamo, I enjoyed very much my visit there, especially since we defeated the Texans in that battle hehe. I am sorry about your poor sleep. That's why I usually take some ear plugs with me when I travel. You never know what kind of noises you will find during the night.
