Our plane arrived around 5 pm. The first thought on my mind.... I need a drink. We immediately went to the room, unpacked and headed out to a bar. Lets just say I remember entering the bar, well... you know the rest. 9 shots, two beers and a few hours later I was hating life. But I must admit, I had an awesome first night. This was just the beginning of 5 days of debauchery.

Despite partying the night before till 5 in the morning, we visited the ruins of Chichen Itza. Luckily the bus ride was long which gave me the opportunity to catch up on some Zzz's and battle a hang over. We arrive at Ik-kill Cenote to where the roots of a tree reach down into an under ground water cavern. Once we arrived we had a tour guide show us around the ruins. At Chichen Itza's center is the famous pyramid, the temple of Kukulkan, also known as El Castillo (the castle).

When I visited it back in 2005 we were able to climb to the top. Today, many of the monuments including El Castillo have been closed to public access. In 2007 El Castillo was named One of The New Seven Wonders Of the World. I'm glad I had an opportunity to climb the pyramid, the site from atop was amazing.

The next day we went snorkeling off the coast of Isla Mujeres. The island is a short distance of the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The water was warm and clear. We snorkeled for a couple of hours and docked at the port for lunch. We were taken to a restaurant where we dined on authentic Mexican cuisine which include everything from tacos, enchiladas, ceviche, arroz con pollo, to seafood and exotic salads. Local children put on a show while we ate.

We visited Xcaret Eco Park. Xcaret is the Mayan word for "small Inlet". The best way to describe Xcaret is a natural theme park.

The water feels awesome...!
Our adventures included tubing down a natural river, hiking through nature trails and exploring the natural habitat which included waterfalls, and underground rivers. There were numerous places to eat and drink. Buffet's lined the park with endless displays of food.

XelHa and Tulum are two other great destinations. Tulum is know for the famous ruin fort which sits on the cliffs edge overlooking the Carribean Sea. We took the steps down and laid on the sand looking out at the endless clear blue waters.

Night life was pretty amazing. We went out every night drinking and dancing. The main bars and clubs include the Coco Bongo, a night club known for themed nightly shows with flying acrobats, live bands, soap bubbles, and amazing sound system, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville; restaurant and bar, Pat OBriens, Dady O's, Bulldog, and Senor Frogs, just to name a few.

Cancun is one of the Gem's of Mexico. With numerous restaurants, world class clubs, amazing historical sites, and of course...beautiful beaches...who can resist.
