Estoy aqui
How about overwhelmed? That might be a good word to describe it.
We (Delta Flight 101 and I) arrived in Buenos Aires at 9:00 this morning. The turbulance in the plane was unbelievable. Dinner was postponed for a couple hours, as the flight attendents were told to remain seated. SHAKY BEGINNING! For readers in Nassau County: imagine riding down old Griffin road at about 80 mph. That would give you a similar feeling. haha.
My senora is absolutely amazing. When I met her, she kissed me and stared into my eyes for a full minute. The affection here is unlike anything in America. We took a taxi to her (now our) apartment and she held my hand the whole way. She speaks almost no English, so we just sat in her kitchen drinking Diet Coke and eating cookies with Spanish-English dictionaries, trying to understand one another.
The program directors, the other students, and everyone I have met so far all speak Spanish. I have never listened so closely to conversation. I can no longer be lazy with communication. I´m through with English, except in this blog, for the next few months because no one understands me!In the Atlanta airport, I did meet two girls who are in the same program at the University of Belgrano who also know very little Spanish. I was very relieved to meet two others who would have difficulties. (I think there is a German word for this feeling...haha)
Belgrano is a beautiful part of town. Everything seems clean and well kept. My room is cute. I will take pictures tonight.
I´m here! That´s my news. I will write more later. I need to take a shower...
