the church with impressive stucco work on the outside
San cristobal is a nice town in the mountains at about 2500m altitude. We didn´t think we were affected by the altitude too much until someone asked if we´d been feeling particularly tired and so it had affected us to some degree. But nothing to severe! We arrived on the on a long bus trip from Palenque after visiting the natural water features of Agua Azul and Mi ho waterfall. The first day we went to see the much talked about canyon close by to this area and then the next we decided on a bike tour we thought of some surrounding indigenous towns.. there were some french guys who were also going on the bike tour that day and we let them choose where we went and they chose mountain biking in the local national park! Having never been mountain biking before and at altitude we certainly got a work out (and this was apparently the easy trails!) but the scenery was great and it was all in all a pleasant experience. San Cristobal is very picturesque old colonial town and the accomm was cheap at only 175 pesos (aprox 17.50). The food was great here we tried the quesaillas filled with pumpkin flower and mushrooms - delic and a sort of mexican pizza and there was even a vego cafe.
