Early in the morning we drove to the airport of Cusco to catch LAN Peru flight LP075 to Puerto Maldonado. Only about 35 minutes flight time. Nice views over the Andes.

In Puerto Maldonado two big differences: the tropical vegetation and the hot and humid temperature!

We were taken to the office of a travel agency were we repacked some stuff and left our suitcase again. We took our backpacks for the next 4 days.

Had to drive about an hour to Tambopata River Port. In about 3 hours (including a stop at a checkpoint) a boat took us to our lodge, Refugio Amazonas. On our way a nice (rice) lunch in a banana leaf! We saw turtles and the first macaws.

Arriving at the lodge we had to go up-hill again and walked in about 15 minutes to the head building.

After a drink we went for hour first walk, a short one this time, half an hour to get to the 25 meter scaffolding canopy tower to look above the trees. We saw toucans and heard all kind of jungle noises.

Slept very well in the 3 wall room (one wall is open so you can hear all jungle noises), safely under a mosquito-net. Different experience J
