The glorious days of summer in Europe are over, now we will survive and enjoy winter in the Low Countries

Summer is over, winter is approaching

Every day is getting shorter, the glorious sun of summer and autumn is being replaced by bleak clouds and rain. The festivals are nearly over for the year and the nights of playing outside are already gone. The beautiful architecture of Belgium, rich detail in old stone, is now looking bleak and washed out in gray. It is time to start wearing jackets, carry around an umbrella and curl in against the weather.

On the plus side sunrises over Brussels now gloriously grace our breakfast table and we have hundreds of interesting museums to explore out of the way of the weather. Time to stay inside cooking lavish meals, drinking great beers with friends and protect our own little piece of summer against the weather outside.

It hasn't rained in all of september, so the plants will be happy with the rain, the people a little less :) And don't worry, it will start getting dark earlier every day and you don't really notice gray skies when it's dark :p

I got hear in February, there were a few snow days and sub-zero temperatures, but it wasn't as gloomy and wet as it has been the last week. Cold is fine, as long as the skies are still blue :)

BTW, Adelaide barely has water, let alone the climate to go ice-skating on rivers and canals!

Haha since when have you been in Belgium? Weren't you here last winter? We reached -15°C on some days, ok that was an exceptionally cold winter, but still, it's great fun, especially if you like ice skating on rivers and canals.

This was Damme (near Bruges) in January :)

PS. Why can I see this post when it's still a draft version, or maybe it has been published and the "draft version" notifier is wrong
