The “Devils’ Town” is natural monument situated in the south of Serbia and embrace 2 rare world’s phenomena : soil figures as specific relief forms (202, of different shapes and sizes, from 2 to 15m height) and 2 wells of strong acidic waters with high mineralization. The terrain around is a rather severe and mystic. This geo-morphological phenomenon is a unique and very rare in the world. There are similar occurrences in Europe but the Devils Town towers are much larger and much more stable, which makes them one of the most renowned natural monuments of the kind in Europe.

There are a few legends about Devils Town … according to one , the figures represent the petrified wedding guests who, at devils urging, tried to marry a brother and sister, so the God petrified them to prevent this incest. The other legend says that these are the devils turned into stones by the people who had been forced to carry them on their backs, suffering misfortunes, and who, trying to get rid of them , spent a night at the Devils Town site.

So, enjoy :))

Thanks Kristina! That's the same problem here in California and everywhere else I guess, the best stuff is hard to get to. Yes, it sounds better to take drive a car there. I'd love to see what plants and animals live there... Whenever there are weird soils or things like acid water, there are usually unusual species!

Really, still it's little complicated to get there by bus, because you have to go to Krusevac or to Kursumlija town somehow, and than to catch some local bus (they are so rare) to Prolom bath and than again you have about 10 km to Devils town ... sooo, too complicated and on this way you'll need the whole day for about 300km from Belgrade to Devils town :( so, the best is to take a car or rent as we did and enjoy ... when you decide to come at least :) I'm here for help :))
