We started early in the morning right after breakfast. At all events we had our swimming suits with us since we wanted to go to Lake Kournas if there would be enough time.
We took the route to Imbross as ever. Right behind the village there's a small road to Kallikratis (watch for the sign, it's not easy to find). We turned right there. It took us steep into the mountains where we had an amazing view on Imbross and the gorge. We passed the villages of Akones, Asfendos and Agriokefala before we reached Kallikrates. All the village we've passed are mostly populated by sheep and goats.
We arrived at Argiroupoli at noon and watched for the sign to the excavation place. We followed it but somehow we missed the place. We returned after 5 km and drove back to the village. There was another sign showing a place close to the church. That couldn't be the excavation!! I was disappointed. It's just tiny. Only a few stones and nothing more. You can't even go inside :( Maybe we missed the real place - I don't know. We couldn't find it.
So what to do? Some hours passed since breakfast and there was a lovely smell from a bakery.
In the meantime it was around 1.30 p.m.. Time enough to drive to Lake Kournas which is the biggest fresh water lake in Crete. You can go swimming there or cruising it with pedal boat. If you're lucky you can see snakes and turtles there. We haven't seen any of them :( But we had fun cruising the lake with a pedal boat :) One hour was 7 €. Not cheap but the fun counted - lol. I haven't done it for light years ;)
We thought about swimming in the lake but it got cloudy and windy again therefore we decided to drive back to Rodakino. Since we didn't wanna take the main road it would last much longer anyway.
Since the signs aren't very clear and sometimes in cyrillic, which I'm not able to read, it was just a question of time that we got lost.
In Agios Ioannis we passed the Kotsifou gorge again. And this time - after passing it 4 times - we were able to take some photos since there was less traffic and we could park at the edge of the narrow road.
Around 7 p.m. we arrived Rodakino again. A bit exhausted but after having a shower we were fit again for another delicious meal accompanied by red wine and beer in the hotel taverna.
