We woke up early in the morning because of a strong wind going. At first I looked out of the window to check the weather. If you're from northern Europe and used to bad weather you expect the sun's always shining in Greece - lol. There were only a few clouds but it was still cool due to the wind. We didn't care. After having a shower we put our shorts, T-Shirt and sandals on and went to the breakfast room. Greek breakfast isn't famous for its opulence but what we got was disappointing. They didn't even had fruits on the table. Just bread, cornflakes, yoghurt, 1 kind of cheese and cold cut each, coffee, tea, orange juice, that's it. Not that it was under - no, no, it was enough for everybody, but it was the same every morning - all week long. They didn't even changed the cheese and cold cut :( The year before, when we stayed in Matala, we had grapes, melon and other fruits.

And I was sooooo looking forward to that. Fruits in Greece are unbeatable, fresh and delicious. Well, we bought some at the markets then.

After breakfast we had a look on the beaches around. The next beach is only 50 m away from the hotel. It's not very wide but sandy and clean. About 15 minutes by feet you find a larger one - Koraka Beach. It's sandy, too but with little pebbles at the tide zone. Usually we wanted to spend the day on the beach but due to the heavy wind we decided to drive to Frangokastello and Chóra Sfakion for some sightseeing.

Frangokastello - only 15 km west from Rodakino - is the location of an old venetian castle built in 1371-74. The castle has a simple rectangular shape, with a tower at each corner and the remains of a Venetian coat of arms above the main gate.

The buildings within the walls, as well as the battlements, were constructed during the Ottoman Turkish occupation but nearly destroyed nowadays. It was fun to stroll around there.

The village of Frangokastello isn't very impressive, just a few taverns, small hotels, 2 mini markets and a service-station therefore, and due to the fact that is started raining!!!, we headed forward to Chóra Sfakion (27 km west of Rodakino).

The main problem in Chóra Sfakion was to find a parking place. The little village was very crowded by tourits - to be honest no idea why. By accident we found one. Then, when we wanted to get out of the car, a cloudburst took place and for at least 15 minutes we were trapped in the car. We didn't had rain coats with us. The last thing I expected in Greece was rain - eek!!

After a while the rain decreased and we decided to explore the village.

It's nice with lots of tavern and shops around the port. We strolled around a bit and found shelter in a bakery during another cloudburst. It smelled so good there that we bought some cheese pies and ate them immediately. The rain didn't stop and going to the beach was impossible. Well, we went back to the car and headed forward to Imbros. Next day we wanted to hike the Imros gorge and we needed some information about transport to the gorge or back. We met some people up there and asked them for help. They were very polite and we got all the informations we needed.

Due to the fact that the south western part of Crete is very mountainous and the streets are narrow and with thousands of serpentines we needed 1 hour (for 35 km) to get back to the hotel.

Where we changed clothes before we went out for dinner.

The dinner at a tiny tavern next to the hotel was a surprise. It was absolutely stunning. Instead of choosing from a menu the waitress told us what's available. We choose: stuffed (with rice) courgette leaves (I never ate something better), greek salad, tzaziki, lamb with potatoes, pork souvlaki with fried potatoes, homemade cake as a desert, red wine and beer. Soooo yummy!!!!!!!
