The Milan Cathedral (Duomo)
The last day of my Italy 2002 trip I spent in Milan. It's one of those Big and Busy cities, very commercial and modern, but I picked out a few things of possible interest to see here and there, which I visited by hoping the metro from place to place. I tried checking out the cities fashion district Quadrilatero d'Oro (Golden Quadrilateral), comprising Via Montenapoleone, Della Spiga, Via Borgospesso, and Via Sant'Andrea. It is one of Milan's claims to fam as a fashion mecca, but there were so many people there you could hardly move and get down the streets, never mind really enjoy it in seeing the place. I gave up on this and visited a few other places by metro, which were not particularly memorable. I eventually ended up at the Piazza del Duomo, the main city square. This is quite an impressive square and worth it for a stop in Milan just to see it. Unfortunately the the Duomo was being restored at the time , so there was scaffolding covering most opf the front facade. Nevertheless, I snapped a few photos, had a nice meal nearby, and otherwise just hung out here for some time before returning to my hotel to prepare for the journey home next day.
