The beachfront at Finale Ligure
Finale Ligure is not a short distance from Verona by train, so I didn't arrive there until early evening. I had no reservations at a hotel, but fortunately was able to find one at Hotel Medusa for the night at least, but would have to relocate in the morning. My objective here was to see something of the Italian Riviera and also have a side trip to the French Riviera. I guess I just wanted to see some sun and sea after the spell of bad weather I experienced in Verona. The main area people flock to here is the Finale Ligure Marina (Finalmarina), where the seaside and beaches are. My observations seemed to be that this is a place where Italians go to vacation, as I saw many families here enjoying the quiet, relaxed atmosphere. It's a nice place to stoll around with a palm tree lined boardwalk, vendors selling their wares, shops and restaurants. I found it quite relaxing. I had some nice meals by the seaside here and otherwise didn't do too much but stroll around, people watch and and enjoy the food in open-air dining. There is a town center too called Finale Pia (Finalpia), and although it has some historic remnants, I didn't find it all that interesting, and it seemed mostly a modern development citywise. Overall, I think I got what I came here for - just to relax by the sea for a bit as I had been away from home near three weeks at this point and would return to Milan soon before my flight home to the USA. Next up is my side trip to Nice, France.
