Arrival at Malaga Airport
September 10, 2009
From Amsterdam it's only a 2,5-3 hour flight to the most southern province of Europe. Home of flamenco, olive oil, Costa del Sol and of course: tapas! I landed on Malaga Airport where I rented a car for next two weeks. From Malaga I went directly to the small city of Mijas, located around 20km to the east. There I had booked my first hotel. This town is said to be amongst the only three villages left on the Costa del Sol which have not yet been completely filled with large concrete hotels (the other two are Salobreña and Frigiliana). I arrived rather late so on the first day my experience with Spain would be limited to driving (Andalusian people are remarkably easy going drivers, not at all like other southern European countries) and diner. Around 9pm I showed up at a nearby restaurant, which is considered to be early (Dutch people eat at 6-6:30). And then tapas! Jamon, queso and of course whatever looks nice.

A very decent and clean hotel. Everything is well taken care of. The hotel is large, has its own parking garage and is located within walking distance of the centre of Mijas.
Remarkable: during my stay the hotel was occupied by a very large number of elderly (British) people. Maybe there to stay for the winter?
