My trip to the Bay Area, seeing the city, and attending baseball games and a football game in Raider Nation.

Doubleheader - Nightcap in San Francisco

AT&T Park
This time, it was riding the Muni streetcar to AT&T Park, to attend my second game of the day. I arrived there, having only bought a ticket for 1 game online, and hoped to buy for the other games at the ballpark.

After picking up my ticket, I had to go to the advanced window inside the ballpark. So I went in right away, without getting to see the exterior of the stadium. I figure I would have time to do that in the other days. I went to my section, which was on the 3rd level, to see what the view was like, and to decide if I'll buy tickets for the same area, since these were one of the cheapest. As it turned out, they were great, so I went to the advance window and bought tickets for the other 2 games in the same section.

I walked around the stadium.

The concourse had pictures and names of players that played for the Giants over the years, organized by position. Then along the bay, alongside the famous McCovey Cove, where home run balls get into the water. There would be people on kayaks hoping to catch a home run ball.

A cable car was on display, and as seen on TV, the giant Coke bottle and mitt in left field. Near the mitt is a table of plaques of players, and the Coke bottle turns out to be slide tubes that kids could go down on. Nearby is a small replica of AT&T Park, where kids could play some ball.

I went up to my seat, which had a view of the field and the bay, plus I saw boats passing by. The fog would roll in later on, and it was interesting to see. A fog horn would go off, whenever the Giants hit a home run.

The San Francisco Giants took on the Chicago Cubs. The Giants needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Same with the Cubs, but they would need so many things to go their way for that to happen. The game turned out to be low-scoring, since the Giants just can't hit, and a pitchers duel between Brad Penny and Ryan Dempster. But it's their pitching that allows them to be in the playoff hunt. Both teams traded a run in the 4th inning. Then in the 7th, John Bowker hits a solo home run, to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. It looked like they would win, as they were 1 out and 1 strike away. But Jeff Baker hits a 2-run homer, to put the Cubs ahead, and they ended up defeating the Giants, 3-2.

This was an interesting day, going to 2 games in 2 ballparks. The experiences turned out to be opposite, as my time at the A's game was sunny and hot, and the crowds was small, while the Giants game was foggy and cold, and more people at the game. The Giants' ballpark had a lot more to see than the A's. Overall, I had fun at both places.
