The guy was nice enough but the room was a bit crappy, it was south facing so it was really really hot when we got in, there was no air-con, just a fan that shot dust everywhere. Also there was some insects and cockroaches in the room. It was a bit annoying considering we had been staying in some of the nicest hostels you could imagine for only €15 a night, now we were paying €30 a night for this... I cant complain too much, the location was great and it could have been a lot worse.
On the first night we went out in the old city and got some food, it wasnt great but it was ok I guess. At that point we realised that Dubrovnik wasn't really a backpackers place, it was mainly full of older couples.
Next day we went round the city walls, it was ok but pretty expensive just to walk round a wall, you get a great view of the old city though. After that we had some lunch then went for a swim in the sea, we went swimming in pile harbour, bad shout, it was full of rocks! Some more cuts to add to the collection. We were running pretty low in cash that night so we had some cheap food then just got some cans of beer and drank them on the harbour.
The next day we went on a boat trip to Lokrum island, its an island/nature reserve/nudist beach! The scenery was pretty nice from the island, the island didnt have very much wildlife, mainly huge insects but there were some peacocks strutting about. The island has a dead sea, I thought it was going to be like the real dead sea but it was just normal sea water which was creating a lake so it wasn't any different to the normal sea. It was nice for a swim though. We didnt stay on the island for very long, maybe a couple of hours then got the boat back to the harbour. When we got back we got some lunch then packed up our stuff because we were leaving the next day. It was so liberating to toss out all that old crap that I didnt need to carry about with me anymore, shorts, sandals and sun cream are all useless back home :)
