We decided to sleep in and not set an alarm. The last two days we had gotten up early, but today we didn't have any tours scheduled. We were going to just take it easy and explore the town some more. After finally getting around, we headed out in search of "La Cabana" de Mendoza. It is a very popular chocolate store in Argentina. We had read that they gave tours at their factory. It was quite a walk, but it was nice to really view the City. We finally found the store/factory and were given a free tour that included free chocolate samples. It was pretty cool to see how they made chocolate and packaged it. After the tour, we of course purchased some chocolates to take home with us. We then found a taxi and headed to the Park San Martin, which is huge! It had been recommended by our wine tour guide. The park reminded me a little of central park, in that it was a very large park surrounded by the city. We walked throught the rose garden and sat on a bench by the lake. It was so relaxing to just sit and eat some more chocolates! We decided to walk back to our hotel so that we could see some more of the City.
After a very nice siesta and a snack, we headed to "the Vines." We had made a tasting reservation. Josh and I decided to each order a flight and to share them. I ordered a flight of Malbecs and Josh ordered a flight of Muestras. The waitress explained the origin of each wine and descriped what we were tasting. We felt like we really learned a lot about the proper way to taste wine!
Malbec Flight -
Mi Terruno Reserva 2007, Bodega Del Genio Malbec 2006, Santos Beck 2006, Ave Malbec 2006 and Sin Fin Malbec 2005
Muestras Flight -
Mil Vientos Torrontes 2008, Mairena Malbec 2006, Serrera Syrah 2007, Las Perdices Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 and Ricominciare Cabernet Franc/Malbec 2006.
After out wine tasting, we went to dinner at "Allure," which we discovered by simply walking by. We both ordered steaks and a bottle of Poesia 2007. We finished the night off by having some gelato next door. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in Mendoza. It is a beautiful, charming city.
