Gondola ride and haywagon/cookout in Estes Park

After spending the morning in the park (Rocky Mtn), Andrea, Jedd and I took the gondola ride up to the top in Estes Park in the afternoon. It's fun (and scary) being suspended high up over a bunch of sharp rocks! The view from the top was beautiful. The mountain over looked the town of Estes Park and you could see Rocky Mountain National Park in the background. We walked around the little trail, but there wasn't much to do up top, so we headed back down.
That evening, our group went to the YMCA camp for a haywagon ride and cowboy cookout. Two wagons loaded with families rolled through the winding trails through the park out to a secluded location perfect for a cookout. A bunch of benches surrounded a fire ring and we all went up to grab hot dogs and sticks. After cooking your dog, you got back in line for beans, potato salad and condiments. Fresh watermelon for dessert. Mmmm. Typical summer picnic food. I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs, but the experience was fun. There was a cowboy playing cowboy songs on his guitar for entertainment. Yep, a picnic with the Rocky Mountains as a back drop is pretty awesome.
On the way home, we saw lots of elk in people's yards and also at the town's watering hole. Hmm, maybe you wouldn't want to drink the city water if you knew elk swam in it every night. More on that later.
