Gent
After a short train journey from Brugge to the town of Gent, it was time to meet TravBuddy member LauraVE. We decided to meet up at the train station and after a short walk (25 minutes or so), we landed up in the centre of Gent. Gent is a lot larger town than Brugge, but when it comes to the main centre, there is not a lot to see, but plenty of shops to shop in. That wasn't going to put us off. We walked around, and saw a few churches, the belfort, walk over bridges going over canal, explored a tourist shop and saw some great buildings alongside the canal.
Olga my partner came down later from Brugge, and we had to meet her at the train station, so we took the tram there and back (1€60 from driver, 1€20 from machine), and within minutes we arrived, picked Olga up and headed back into town.
After another short walk around the centre for Olga's sake. (LOL), it started to rain. So we had some food in a small cafe, and had Dutch style pancakes with brown sugar and butter. That was a nice cheap meal. With nothing else to do for the rest of the evening, we hit a local bar just to chill out, sample the beer and had a great time talking about country's, languages and the music scene (I am still searching for Kate Ryan, oh where is she?). I was a bit shocked that Olga didn't know who the Smurfs and Tin Tin was!Anyway, after 6 large glasses of gay dark beers (according to the film 'In Bruges') we made our way back to the station (which took forever due to no trams, but instead did a bus journey!) and said our goodbye's to LauraVE. I felt fine this evening with the beers, as I ain't much of a drinker, but was shocked the next morning that I actually had a HANGOVER! Doh! Oh well!
