We took our time leaving the hotel in the morning.  We had a relatively short train ride to Cherbourg, France and were in no rush.  We had a ferry booked to take us to Ireland but it didn't set sail till 8 pm, so we had time to kill.  We got into Cherbourg around 2pm and made our way to the ferry station, however we were unable to check in until an hour before the boat left.  A slight rain had started to fall, but we ventured out into town and found a McDonald's with Internet access and killed the rest of the day until we had to get back to the station.

After we were checked in we were hurried to a bus that took us aboard the massive ferry.  The ferry itself looked a lot like a cruise ship, only a little smaller.  It was fully equipped with two bars, three restaurants, game room, and movie theater.  Our cabin was on the top deck so we had easy access to the outside decks and spent a lot of time watching the ocean churn as the ferry pressed through the night.  It was our first time being on such a large watercraft and it was almost entirely a smooth ride.  The only time we were worried was during the night when the ferry hit a large squall and rocked violently for an hour or so.  Overall it was a great way to start the journey to Ireland.
