Day 12 - Reims

The beginning of day was all and well. We got up early, had breakfast at the hostel, and left for the train station to go to Paris for the day. However, we found out that the trains to Paris didn't run that day. We were stranded. It was however a nice day, so we decided to take a tour of the downtown. Again we found ourselves out of luck being that it was a Sunday and everything was shut down. Eventually we wound our way to the town center and found ourselves at a very beautiful cathedral, and just in time for Sunday mass. With really nothing else to see in the town we decided it would be fun to attend.
After we were finished we headed back to the hostel and relaxed for the night, again preparing for the trip to Paris the following day. This was when we really got a good look at the hostel. I had already noticed small, unusual things about the building itself, but none of the dots had connected. However, with time on my hands I did a little investigating and discovered we were in a hostel that had previously been a mental hospital. There were meeting rooms in the basement, elevators that were long enough for a gurney, and bolt holes in the exterior of the windows where iron bars would have been mounted. While fascinating, it was also unsettling. But, it was cheap and a warm bed, it could have been worse. Cheers.
