Parque Central in La Fortuna.
Headed to La Fortuna after the rafting trip. The driver dropped me off at Arenal Backpackers and I found out there was no vacancy. The desk staff were really nice and helped find me another place to stay. A guy they knew that owned a small hotel right around the corner said he had a room I could have to myself for $15/night. It even had a TV and my own shower!! I could tell I was starting to get sick (tonsilitis) so I thought relaxing with a room to myself would be a good idea. I first walked down to the ATM to get some money, as my money came out I didn't grab my card in time and my card sucked back into the ATM!! Since it was Saturday night I wouldn't be able to get my card back until Monday morning, arg! I walked back to Backpackers and the man from the other hotel came and picked me up.
Pisote sighting on the way to Tamarindo!
It was so nice to have a room to myself for the night. I went to bed right away, it had been a long day. I decided to check out Arenal the next day and really wanted to go to one of the hot springs. The next morning I woke up and got some lunch, and went to the pharmacy to get some Vitamin C pills. I was NOT feeling good and my tonsils were swollen. I took the 3 pm tour of Arenal, which was neat, but since I was sick I wasn't really feeling it. Around dusk the tour went to watch for Lava from Volcano Arenal. Maybe it was because I wasn't feeling good, but to me it wasn't that exciting. We were SO far away and the only 'lava' that we saw was just for a couple seconds. It wasn't really what I was hoping for, but I'm still glad I went.
Enjoying the Baldi hot springs.
Next they brought us to the hot springs. I decided to go to Baldi instead of the more popular Tabacon, because it was much cheaper and I was running out of money (haha.) The hot springs included a nice meal. Baldi was very neat, however there were only 1 or 2 REALLY hot pools which I wanted. Also although the water was 'natural heated' it kind of seemed just like pools with hot water. I would have liked to find a natural hot spring pool somewhere. It was nice though and I enjoyed it. I got back to my room that night and slept soo nice!! The next morning I had to go to the bank to get my ATM card back, as I was trying to leave that morning for Tamarindo! The ladies at the bank were SO nice and I really appreciated their help.
In general, Costa Ricans have been so helpful and nice!! Great feeling!! I got my card back and decided to splurge a bit on Interbus to Tamarindo. I still wasn't feeling well, and $35 or so for a private, A/C shuttle to my next hostel sounded worth it. And it so was! The driver was really nice, we stopped at Lake Arenal to take a couple photos, and I came into contact with my first pisote sighting!! We stopped to take pictures and fed them some cheetos!! The driver took me right to Tamarindo Backpackers, I was glad I made it to La Fortuna to check out Arenal.
