Depart NOLA.... destination fun!
Well we finally got here! Rachel, Kelli and Rayford started their day at 3:30am, Ouch! Mine wasn't much later since I met them at the airport in New Orleans at 4:45am. I'm happy I didn't have to drive from Baton Rouge!
We hopped on our first flight to Miami but it was delayed because the protective layer on the nose of the plane was peeling off and they needed to find the correct tape to fix it, yes, tape. We arrived in Miami slightly behind schedule and had to run from terminal E to terminal A because our plane was already boarding. If you haven't been to this airport, take my word, it's HUGE! They even have signs that say 32 minutes to terminal A, 15 minutes to terminal A.
I really thought we were going to miss the flight. We caught our plane and it was off to Cancun.
Upon arrival we caught our shuttle to the Aventura Spa Palace, our all-inclusive resort right outside of Playa del Carmen. The ride was crazy and I had the feeling that we might die on our first day of vacation. The guy decided to make his own lane out of the shoulder of the road because the traffic was so bad. It ended up being a 5-car pile up that was blocking traffic.
Anyway, the resort is amazing! The place is huge and really beautiful. All we have to do here is sit down and enjoy the sun. We booked a tour into Chichen Itza for Friday and we are going snorkeling in the reef on Saturday before we return on Sunday. We went and ate at El Greco, one of the resort restaurants, then it was off to veg out by the pool. We ended up meeting some boys that were at our resort on their senior trip, from high school. They were really nice boys from Utah that we ended up meeting up with at the resort “club”. The club was a pirate themed bar complete with it's own Mexican Jack Sparrow. We had a lot of fun dancing and drinking before heading off to bed. More later! -Kate
I guess I'll try to fill in some of the gaps.... We requested two doubles but ended up with a king! Yay for cuddling! We had a complimentary fruit "basket" and a bottle of wine in the room as well as a refrigerator stocked with beer and drinks. The lagoon is cool and you can even kayak and snorkel. The senior trippers came down to visit us at the lagoon and they made friends with the kayak/snorkel equipment attendant. After they walked off, she said they were full of alcohol? For dinner we ate at La Huerta. We all had wine with dinner and then shared the five desserts they offered. The food was ok, but nothing gourmet.
