We arrived on Sunday 13th September 2009, having flown from London, Gatwick to Perveza airport. Perveza airport......the smallest airport I have ever visited. We were met by the rep and transferred to our apartment. The bus journey took approximately 50 minutes. We arrived at the Yannis Apartments in Nidri around midday. On entering the apartment we were pleasantly surprised, the room was very clean and had everything required for a self catering holiday. We were situated on the top floor and the view was beyond amazing, the apartment overlooked the pool/bar area and the habour. Many hours were spent just sitting on the balcony watching the world sail by, it was so relaxing. The apartments were centrally located and the beach was approximately 5 minutes stroll away.
Nidri itself is one of the most popular resorts on the Island of Lefkas, whch overlooks a spectular group of islands including the pine-covered Madouri, Skorpidi and Skorpios which are exclusive private islands of the late shipping tycoon Arstotle Onassis.
On the habour front you will find ample of ferries offering day trips to visit offshore islands. We took a day cruise with Eptanisos (www.eptanisos.com) for 15 euros each. We se out at 10a.m. and the first stop was what I believed to be the most beautiful beach in the whole of the Mediterranean, Porto Katsiki. On arrival we disembarked and went swimming in the most breathtaking blue water. On leaving the island of Lefkas behind we headed south towards the biggest of the Ionian Islands, Kefalonia where we disembarked in the most picturesque fishing village of Fiscardo. From here we headed to Ithaki where we spent 40 minutes in a small fishing village called Kioni.
Nidri at night is what you want to make it, from tavernas and lively bars, cafe's along the habour front which gives off a cosmopolitan feel with superb views. Overall a very relaxing holiday with stunning views and friendly locals.
