a familiar haunt
It's been almost two weeks since arriving in Japan (surprisingly it feels much longer than that), but I think that I'm finally starting to get settled in. Now that I have a permanent roof over my head, a job that's ready for me to start working (as of tomorrow), a cell phone, and a commuter train pass, I think I'm ready to start living.

It's been an interesting two weeks in retrospect. Some of the highlights: passing my work training with a 91%; watching Jim Jarmusch's "Limits of Control" at a cool movie theater in Shibuya; eating lots and lots of delicious food; seeing the sprawl of Tokyo from the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building (for free); buying a suit in Ginza during the massive sale at one of the major department stores; meeting up with my friends Ai and Takuma; accomplishing some pretty big feats on my own like setting up health insurance, a bank account, and a cell phone.
of course there are giant size mascots of rilakkuma. of course.
Some of the lows: sitting through five days of training for work; getting some massive mosquito bites on my arms and legs (that later became extremely swollen and looked like lepracy); the typhoon that's currently hitting Tokyo; riding the sardine-can-like trains and getting pushed into the cars by a handful of station attendants. Things to look forward to: Tokyo International Film Festival in Roppongi; trip to the Tokyo horse race track; Tokyo Disney Sea; Nikko overnight trip; work halloween party with clients and staff; meeting up with more friends and rediscovering this crazy town.

I haven't been taking enough photos, that's for sure, so I need to start documenting more. I hope that by next blog I'll have some interesting photos to share. For now, here's a collection of things that, for whatever reason, I found interesting.
