Winefest - and quite a walk getting there if you get off at the wrong stop

My friend and I were headed to the winefest in the late afternoon on the last weekend of it taking place. It's something you don't want to miss if you're in the area (see review below).
We had my friend's kid in a stroller and went by subway train from Goldberg station by Boblingen (cheap parking). Since we're women and women like to talk, we were chatting and got off the train at the wrong stop. Doesn’t matter we thought. We can either wait for another train to get to where we need to go and waste 20 minutes or we can leave the station and walk. Sure! Let's do that: Walk that is.
Well, we were about two stops away from Stadtmitte, but we didn’t know that at the time.
We started walking downtown, which literally means walking down in Stuttgart. The city is located in a "funnel" so wherever you are, if you get lost, good bet is to start walking downhill. If you're already in the flat area, chances are you are pretty close to the center of the city.
As we were crossing the street at one corner we both stopped short and blurted out “I’ve always wanted to come see this place up close!” We laughed for about a minute and then came to our senses.
What we had spotted is a gorgeous old gothic church surrounded by a small lake with big old trees all around it.
When we were satisfied with our photo booty we continued walking. I guess we walked for about 30 minutes but it was worth it. After all, we still had to work up an appetite. We grabbed an iced coffee at Starbucks, since we were here and it was there. ;)
I covered the Weinfest in the review so I won’t repeat myself here. We did end up on Schlossplatz with our food because we had gotten here a little late and all the good seating was taken.
After this we headed back to the subway (the closest stop this time) and headed back home.
What a fantastic day!
