Rose early for an early start. Drove 400km through countryside where the grass had hints of yellow and rolls of wheat sat nestled in clusters on the semi-dry fields. We stopped in a quiet town for chips & a chocolate thickshake. It was a nice local spot. An old man sat outside the restaurant, newspaper spread out on his table, cigarette in one hand and lighter in the other. He appeared frozen. On exiting the building we found him to be in precisely the same position, seemingly confirming my suspicion that he was frozen, or dead, or asleep, or just taking advantage of his old age and pulling our leg. Later that afternoon we arrived at our spot for the night. It was a sweet spot situated in the woods which surrounded a pretty lake. Now this i can't do as a backpacker. Surrounding the area were beautiful trails through the woods which was made up of towering trees with thick trunks. The air was fresh and chilly, & smelt deeply of wood. We went for dinner by the lake and i had a very satisfying meal of kangaroo loin with red wine, beer and apple crumble with berries and ice cream. We then retreated to our cabin, where we lounged in comfy sofas watching movies while the wooden fire heater burnt, keeping us warm.
