Hotel Amber.
After a short flight from Luton, we were met by the taxi which we had pre-booked, and whisked off to the Hotel Amber, which would be our base for the next three nights. We chose this hotel after reading glowing reports about it in a travel magazine. We were not disappointed. Fabulous little hotel......worth more than its official three star rating. Located just a few hundred yards from the main square meant that we were able to walk to many of the main sights. The hotel is cosy and modern at the same time. I would even say it is more like a home than a hotel. The rooms are big and the beds comfortable. They have a cable television and free wireless internet access. Tea and Coffee Making Facilities in our room were very useful.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly.
They had great knowledge of the city, cultural events, transportation etc. Every detail of service has been focused on guest comfort. We spent three nights here but could easily have stayed a full week. There is loads to do!
For dinner on our first night we chose Ancora Restaurant.....and what a choice this proved to be....simply outstanding !

On arriving at the restaurant we were really impressed, the décor is of a very high quality and the building has been tasteful renovated to maintain the old features. The basement cellar area is just fantastic, it would be ideal for a group gathering, but that is enough of the architecture…..
On entering we were greeted and shown to our table which as very well laid out with fine cutlery and nice glasses.

I started the evening with a house creation cocktail chosen by my wife. The drink was excellent both in terms of taste and presentation and was a welcome change from the familiar signature cocktails.
We then studied the menu, this presented the first challenge of the evening; a fantastic choice of meat, fish and vegetarian with many local influences to some truly imaginative dishes – the problem was what to have, they all sounded really interesting.
For wine there was once again the dilemma of what to have, faced with a fantastic selection of international vintages. We left it to the wine waiter who made an excellent selection to complement our dishes on our behalf.
Throughout the meal the service was attentive without being intrusive and also to the standard of very select establishments without being too snooty. All in all, everything comes together to present a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere to enjoy first class food and drinks.
We really enjoyed our meal and evening at Ancora and will certainly return when we next visit Krakow.
