Ah .......
Get your tissues at the ready … the Mel and Maggie show ended today. After a dramatic will she, won’t she make it story line Maggie finally managed to change her flights and arranged to be in Rio for one day only so we could have our final hoorah … and what a hoorah it was.

After arriving in at 1pm and a rather teary and high pitched reunion we set off for Santa Teresa via an acai shop to give Maggie her first taste of Brasil. Santa Teresa is a welcomed break from the heat of the beaches and is located up in the hills of Rio and is one of the oldest districts. The buildings are colonial and have much more character than the built up beaches down below. We took the tram up to the top of the hill where we hijacked two other travelers as they had a map and a plan and we didn’t. Lovely day and we finished by walking down the famous Lapa steps which have had U2, Michael Jackson and a myriad of other stars on their steps … including Maggie and I.

With time to spare we raced across town to see the sunset from Sugar Loaf mountain, the best views of Rio and possibly my favourite place in Rio too. There may have been one or two capirhinias involved, I honestly can’t remember. They were quickly followed by one or town more, dinner and then some serious dancing until I had to take my taxi to the airport to fly out of Rio and to say goodbye to the best partner in crime I’ve had for a long while. It’s been emotional ….
