Finally a place that´s a little less frantic and more local. We arrived tired and hungry into Baños after being in the Amazon. You come down into the valley and see a very quaint little town nestled into the valley with the ominous Chimborazoo volcano looming in the background. After dumping our bags in the little B&B place we rented quad bikes and took the 45 min drive up the mountain side to the viewpoint. Good job the drivers here are used to tourists buzzing about on these contraptions as anywhere else in Ecuador we´d have been dead. Got back into town and went for a civilized dinner and we were planning on an early night but we found ourselves in a local bar with cheap Mojitos and a DJ willing to let us put on our music with only a little salsa thrown in.
The next day was the festival of the local Virgin of Baños, so the city was alive with celebrations. A massive parade went through the streets and hundreds of people we partying and eating the local sweet foods. Real party feeling and going for a massage in the middle of it was really strange, but hey that´s what this town is known for and for $35 to have a massage and facial ... it would have been rude to say no!
