Balance restored in Bocas

I swapped cold for sun, tarantulas for mozzies and hot drinks for cocktails. Balance was finally restored.
We arrived into Bocas at lunchtime and got our first taste of boat life early on. The local taxi is actually a boat service that runs from the mainland over to the islands. Then at the islands various small boats whisk you across the water for hardly any money to whatever exotic island takes your fancy. I could get used to this!
We opted to stay at Aqua Lounge which had a laid back lovely feel to it and great staff. The bar was also well stocked and its location right on the water with a pool area carved out in the deck directly into the aqua blue waters also swayed our opinion!
Bocas is known for parties and beaches and it didn't disappoint on either front.
The next day we opted to take a boat tour of the beaches and visit Dolphin Bay and the famous Red Frog Beach. What we hadn`t counted on was the hangover and the rain. Combined with a boat journey all was not well in paradise! The ride to Dophini bay was rocky and rather wet but we perked up when the dolphins came out to play with the wake of the boat. We stopped early for lunch to escape the rain which was battering us. We eventually braved it and hit red frog beach to walk through the mini rainforest walk they have there (and when i say mini i mean mini!). It wasn`t exactly the day we had planned and we were rather glad to get back to Aqua Lounge and get some hot lentils into us!!! Not the best $15 i`ve spent this trip!
I also discovered late in the day that sand flies and mozzies abound here. I was eaten alive and spent the nights itching myself awake. Grrrr. Think it would have been more fun in the sun so onwards to Costa Rica!
