The crew out for dinner in Quito
It´s been a great few days back in Quito with the Gekko group.  Our first day back we decided to go on a road trip up to the Cloud Forests 2 hours from Quito. A 6.45 start and we headed up to Ofelia bus terminal to catch the bus up to Mindo.  For the princely sum of $2.50 we got a 2 hour bus ride up to Mindo.  Weaving through the roads on the way was really spectacular, the road has been carved into the mounatin side and is covered with luch vegetation and waterfalls.  As the maniacal music played we climbed higher and higher into the forst until we came to the rather charming little town of Mindo.

After a quick Spanish lesson from the local tour office on how to book tour tickets and arrange a Ute for transport we were off to hike to waterfalls and spend an hour and a half zip lining across the forest a few 100 metres from the ground.  Brad and Janine looked a little green at the prospect!!!

We took our ride in the back of a ute up to the first waterfall and took a cable car overthe forest and out to the other side where we hiked out to the first waterfall through some really beautiful forest scenes and eventually came to the waterfall and watched people climb onto rocks and jump into the lagoon below.  Bob Hope and No Hope!!! Looked so dangerous!!! So we hiked back up and took another ute down to the zip lines.  A 13 lines wire assault course awaited and we took the challenge on, Butterflying (hanging upside down from the zip line with the guides holding your legs .
The incredible cloud forest
.. nothing lady like about this one!) and Supermaning (where you wrap your legs around the guides waist and essentially fly over the forest) across almost everyline and having loads of fun.  What i failed to realise in the midst of all this was that i was being feasted on by the local mozzies who clearly hadn´t been fed for months!  All i can say is my legs don´t look pretty!

After the zip line extravaganzza was finished we realised we´d missed the official bus back to Quito.  Slight problem as Natalie had a plane to catch that night!!! However, in Quito this isn´t a problem as any part of any road is considered a bus stop.  So we simply got our ute to take us up to the Pan American Highway where we waited to hail down any bus heading to Quito.  45 mins later and much to Nat´s relief we were Quito bound.

Been really great to be back in Quito but i´m certainly ready for a change and to get to the Amazon.  Will be such a shame to say goodbye to Bernadette and Steve, they´re joining another group, they´ve been amazing fun and we´re still plotting to kidnap them.  Watch this space .....
