Whistle Stop Cafe

The third weekend of the month is the Antique Car Show. Our first stop was the Whistle Stop Cafe. It's known for it's sandwiches. Located on the corner of South Collins and J. Arden Mays Blvd. and next to the East and Westbound tracks of CSX and Amtrak trains. We got to see the Amtrak head westbound thru Plant City to Tampa's Union Station. The cafe is decorated in train decor and the old soda shop style. Their menu offers Roast Beef, Corned Beef, Turkey, Ham, Tuna sandwiches. with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and different types of cheeses. All made with fresh baked breads. Mike had the Turkey Bacon Last Stop and I had the The Ruben Express. Both come with potato chips and a wedge of pickle. The prices are very reasonable too!!  After a great lunch we headed out into the summer heat to do a little shopping.

You always see a lot of things you would like to buy, but we were just looking.  Our last thing we wanted to see was the antique car show. I do not know much about the cars but I live the work and style of them. The gas guslers of the past were beautiful over the top beauties. Most had been restored to there orginal materials and designs.

It was a good day. The heat just wipes you out. Looking forward to the fall and winter. In the early spring Plant City host the Strawberry Festival. Lots of carinval rides, food, exhibits, animals and the must have "Strawberry Shortcake". You can make your own and add as much strawberries and whip cream that will fit into the bowl. Their is first class Country singers like, The 2010 entertainment includes George Jones, Kellie Pickler, Jake Owens, Rodney Adkins, Taylor Swift, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Mel Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Jeff Foxworthy, and Jessica Simpson just to name a few.

Ticket prices run between $10.00 and $30.00 dollars. And all the seats are very good.

HISTORY - Plant City's original name was Ichepucksassa (also known as Idasukshed) after the Indian village that once occupied the territory. Its name caused so much confusion that the city was renamed Cork, after the postmaster's Irish hometown. It was finally given the name Plant City in commemoration of Henry B. Plant, and his railroad, which significantly boosted the commerce in this primarily agricultural community by incorporating it with the South Florida Railroad.

Originally, Plant City was a large cotton center, but after changing its primary crop to strawberries it gained recognition as the winter strawberry capital of the world.
