The hike to Heidelberg, well not really hiking but, a long drive.

Picturesque fields and tall spire of the church of the village - rural central Germany

We made the exact return trip to Frankfurt and then headed south to Heidelberg. It’s about an hour south. The approach crossing the river, we kept expecting to see the drama that is Heidelberg. That would have to wait until the morning, as it was late and we were very hungry, and tired.

Also, with a goal of seeing the city and driving back to Amsterdam (5hours), we needed to eat and then get some rest.

We went to a little restaurant on the main pedestrian street and I had a casserole with potato and spinach and a delicious sauce. I also took the opportunity to have the regional specialty, reisling. It’s my favorite type of wine.

We walked along the river on the way back to get a different view. It was a peaceful walk with the gently gurgling of the river making it's journey through Heidelberg.

Back in the room, I worked on my blog a bit to relax. Rob was asleep in no time. I turned on an episode of Green Acres on the computer and don’t even remember the opening song. I told you, I was tired. I was excited because this is a city I have had at the top of my list for awhile. I’m finally here. I hope the morning brings warmth and blue skies.
