In the afternoon Romana and I went to the Grand Palace, Wat Prah Kaew, and Wat Pho. I'd visited both temples on my trip to Bangkok a few weeks ago, but the palace had been closed for the king's birthday. Let me tell you, it makes all the difference in the world when you visit these places with a local. She knew exactly where to go (i.e. how to dodge the swarms of tourists), what to see, the history behind everything, the works. I was no less awed and amazed the second time through; perhaps even more so, because this time I had the knowledge to go along with it. Truly amazing.
We stopped at Romana's favorite food court on the way home, mouth-watering Thai noodle soup for her and fantastically spicy green papaya salad for me. Delicious.
I can't get enough of Bangkok.
