Really, I am.  And let me tell you, things are... well, pretty much the same.

My friend Hannah explains the time warp here: http://iambloggingfromthefuture.blogspot.com/2009/08/preamble-to-my-walkabout.html

In addition to being twelve hours ahead of the east coast, Thailand is also YEARS ahead of the rest of the world.  Five hundred and forty-three years, to be exact.  The current calendar year here in Thailand is 2553, which will change in April, when the Thais celebrate their new year.  This has been a daily fact of life for me since December; I don't think twice about it being 2553 anymore.  It's a given.

But I realized I never shared this fun fact with you guys at home, and figured better late than never.  Hey, if I was missing out and behind the times by 543+ years, I'd want to know too.

I tried to find out what Chinese year it is, the other day, but the person I was speaking to didn't understand the question. They do just seem to use the same calendar year as us westerners, but just celebrate New Year on a different day.
