Backpacker
November 13, 2005
Well everyone I'm on the ground here in Edinburgh. I got in here yesterday about 0900 local (Noon Kuwait time).
The flights over were good. KLM was outstanding as usual. As in my last post my KIA to AMS flight was nice. Hardly anyone on board. My AMS to EDI flight was a bit more packed but I had the 2 seats next to me open and it was only a 1 hr flight so it was nice. My driver picked me up from the airport right on time. His name was Johnny and was a great guy and an excellent driver. He dropped me off at the Apex City Hotel which is where I set up shop. The hotel is located in an area in Edinburgh known as the Grassmarket. I'm in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle up on the hill.
The town here is very old and quite beautiful. The architecture here is just amazing. I've included some pictures below so take a look at them. The times on them and on these postings are in Kuwait time so it won't look quite right. I hope to go out tonight and take more as its awesome here at night. So be looking for additional photos in future entries. Well thats enough for now I got alot of walking ahead. Take care and look back here soon for more stuff.
Edinburgh Castle was absolutely amazing. From the walls you can see the entire city. I took the audio tour which I found to be very informative. You have the option to explore as much or as little of the castle as you want. Be sure to check out "Mon's Meg" a 14th century cannon fashioned from hand forged iron bands. This place is a must see for anyone traveling to Edinburgh.

The Apex City Hotel is located in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh, Scotland. The placing of this hotel could not be any better as there are many shops, restraunts and bars within a short walk. You are also only a few blocks from the Royal Mile and are in the shadow of the great Edinburgh Castle. The price was a tad high but well worth it. The rooms were very clean and contained high quality furniture and linens as well as wireless internet. The hotel restaraunt was exceptional though a bit overpriced. Overall I was very pleased with my stay at this facility and would stay there again.
