Schönbrunn Tiergarten - Vienna Zoo - World's Oldest Zoo
I've mentioned Schloss Schönbrunn (Royal Castle) before.
It's an easy spot to find and get to and is just out of the city a few stops on the underground.
It's my favourite tourist attraction in Vienna for a number of reasons. It was originally the summer residence of the royal family and it remains a magical location to this day with some glorious gardens surrounding it.
Located in the gardens is the Zoo. It's a great zoo and worth a day or half day if you have the time and like your zoos.
It also happens to be the worlds oldest open zoo!
Of note are the newly born baby Panda's, the koala's and the newly born Polar Bears. There are also some good 'great cats' exhibits and a huge seal colony that go nuts at feeding time.
The enclosures are mostly excellently designed and the rainforest jungle is one of the best things I've ever seen in a zoo. Complete with lighting, thunder and rain you could forgive yourself for genuinely being in the jungles somewhere.
Unfortunately, I got so excited while I was there I actually forgot to take photos so this is a pretty lame blog. sorry.
