Monumento Vittorio Emanuele
June 1, 2009
The monument is a little bit extravagant and pompous and was built by Vittorio Emmanuelle (the first king of the unified Italy) as a memorial of himself.
The Roman people call it ”the false teeth of Rome”, ”the Wedding cake” or ”the Typewriter”.
The monument holds the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame, built under the statue of Italy after the First World War, and if you walk up the stairs to the Unknown Soldier’s grave you get a magnificent view of Rome and Forum Romano.
