Rome is the world`s biggest open air museum and, one way or another, the Eternal City will seduce you and hardly leave you indifferent.

Colosseum is definitely one of the sights of Rome that must be seen before you die.

The largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire with originally capacity of 60,000 seating spectators was used for fights to the death between animals and gladiators or even between gladiators.

Amazing to think of how old it is and that it`s still standing! I recommend to visit the area by night when the Colosseum is lit and also very  beautiful and soooo romantic!

The way to avoid the long lines is to pass by all the people standing in line and to go to where they sell the audio tour headphones.

Colosseum
You have to pay a little extra for the audio tour (normal entry ticket costs 12 euro, audio headphone ticket  costs 16 euro), but for me at least it added great value to the tour anyway because there were only few persons waiting in line.

For 12  euro you get nothing apart from the entry to the Colosseum. No map, no explanations, nothing. I recommend to download your own information and take it with  you or buy one of the books from the gift stalls.

Beware of the gladiators around Colosseum and never give them your camera to take a photo of you! You will not get it back without giving them whatever money they decide to charge.

It's time I go back there. I missed out the Colosseum because of the Lazio Roma vs Bari game. But I did saw it in the distance.
