Wonderful 12 hour flight on LAN - less leg room than a long haul bus, but a proper entertainment system more than compensates. Even arrived 40 minutes early, which would have been great had it not been 4am... Breakfast with older sister Kathy and family in Auckland, before jetting on down to Hamilton with Sarah's mum and nephews Caleb and Max in tow.

Met Jock the chocolate brown labrador puppy - very cute, if a little excitable. Still a little hazy from jet lag, falling asleep for 3 hours in the afternoon by mistake. Started the long process of sorting photos before we were sent off to buy a Christmas tree. Unlike England, this involved going to a farm, walking in a paddock of Christmas trees, picking one we liked, sawing it down, carrying it back to the car and shoving it in the boot (no wrapping required).
Taking the boys for a walk
All good fun. Survived a morning of babysitting the nephews, no kids for us just yet.

Saturday morning we headed up through Auckland to Red Beach and had lunch with Sarah's Nana in Orewa. Had a drive down memory lane around Whangaparaoa peninsula, where Sarah's grandparents had lived for many a year - lots of growing up memories for Sarah. Afternoon tea and then back on the road to Auckland, managing to navigate our way to Rich and Nic's home. Fun evening of catching up since we had them over in London in June, heading out to a bbq hosted by some church friends of theirs. Despite the fact we didn't know the hosts, Sarah did bump into a couple of old friends (small country!). Crashed with the Drakes and then early drive back on Sunday to Hamilton for brunch with some old school friends of Sarah. All go for sure - I thought NZ was going to be relaxing...
