Bunaken National Marine Park covers a surface of 89,000 hectares with 97 % of water and 3% of land(Manado Tua,Siladen,Bunaken islands...). The waters are extremely deep(more than 1500 m in Manado bay),crystal clear with visibility up to 40 meters, refreshing in temperature(27-29°C) with one of the highest levels of marine biodiversity in the world ,pristine reefs with around 70 genera of corals,7 of the 8 species of giant clams known in the world, more than 2500 species of fish...The unequalled abundance of marine life is due,in part,to oceanic currents which are a trap for free swimming larvae and to the abundance of hard corals.
All visitors to the Bunaken National park(divers, snorkellers or swimmers) are required to pay an entrance fee of 150000 Idr for a waterproof tag valid a year which must be carried at all times(it can be bought at your resort).
