Welcome to my journey to the tallest peak in the US... Mt. Whitney, Lone Pine, CA

Day 1: Trekking locally... a peaceful and beautiful day.

Mammoth Lakes... Just a few of hundreds.

It's a beautiful morning in Mammoth. The temperture this morning is in the upper 40's with clear skies. The girls decided to sleep in this morning so I Just made some coffee and enjoyed the fresh crisp air on the balcony.

Well everyone is awake now, bellies full and ready to enjoy the day. We all decided on taking a hike this morning to take in the beautiful scenery and get warmed up for Whitney. Off to the trails we go...

It never seem to amaze me, the beauty of these mountains are breath taking. We hiked for about two hours up past a few lakes and just below Mammoth Crest. The view of deep blue water, Granite faces, blue skies and the smell of the pines seemed to be the key to this most beautiful day.

Next we decided to take a drive up to the mainlodge of the Ski Resort and take a Gondola ride to the top.

The view from here was very familiar minus the snow that we're so used too. The girls and I usually are skiing these peaks in the winter. This resort is my home in the winter as I work as a Ski Instructor for Mammoth Mtn Ski School. The average snowfall here is 400+ in.

Well we have worked up an appetite and it's time to start thinking about dinner. Mindy suggested that we take a drive to Lee Vinning for dinner and eat at the Mobil Gas Station. What! 35 miles to go eat at a gas station! OMG, the food was great. I had tenderloins of lamb glazed with marinade, vegetables and spaghetti squash. For dessert all four of us shared a peace of chocolate cake with raspberries dizzled over the top...ummmmm! And to top it off we had the most beautiful sunset view looking over Mono Lake. Next I'll have to write a review on the Gas station/Restuarant.

Well the bellies are full and it's time to head back to the ski house and get a good nights rest. Good night!
