drive to Lavender Farm
Today was our day at the Lavender Farm. We had a late morning and drove the windy streets to Kula. What a GREAT PLACE! I highly, highly recommend a visit to the lavender farm if you are in Maui. They have the most delicious scones, some nice (though expensive) products for sale, and some really lovely flowers. The walking tour is very educational and you'll discover and learn something about over a dozen varieties of lavender. I learned my favorite one is simply the French Lavender. It's god a sweet, gentle fragrance and isn't musty like the Spanish lavender or plain like the English Lavender.

Getting here is a bit of a hassle though. The turnoff is not clearly marked so drive slow and bring a map. It's located near a botanical garden and very close to the goat farm if you want to visit a very cute warthog and taste a cheese flight.

But the lavender scones and lavender coffee are delicious enough that it'll keep you coming back for more. Parking is free and the first sight to welcome you is a big buddha on a hill, above a gazebo where people get married, and then a patio table you can sit at and enjoy the view. Hahaa =)

The owner is a strange, smiley chinese guy who we found out sold part of the land off to the ex-wife of some movie producer. Or rather, it was sold a couple years ago to the movie producer and his ex-wife got it as part of the settlement. He regrets it now though because he wants to build a spa and has no more land!

One of the reasons this place is so magical, aside from the hills of lavender bushes, is that it's high and therefore cooler. Maui heat is no joke, so not only is it set up high, you can also see the gorgeous coast even though you're fairly far inland. It's really a magical place that I can't recommend enough.
