Serviced Apartment vs. Hotel

The difference between an apartment and a hotel isnt much. to be honest, an apartment is better and cheaper. both have beds, bathtubs and tvs (some even have cable) and internet access and daily cleaning service. but an apartment will usually have a kitchen as well. so i have a fridge i can stock up icecream and drinks instead of using a hotel mini-bar and paying a bomb for them. and the special deal i had with ascott included free internet access. not that fast, but hey, i can actually play online games!

the difference may actually come down to the free breakfast. it wasnt as big as some hotels. but its free and i dont really eat much in the morning. for the first time, i found out how muslim women wearing the face veil eat. ok, that's too much info.

ascott has a nice mini-mart on the ground floor. it isnt open 24x7 but it does save you the trouble of lugging a gallon of water back to the hotel from the nearest supermart. dont forget, tap water is not potable in indo. and around the corner, they even have a travel agency. so if you need to fly to some other part of indo or out of indo, it's there to help you too.

as for mosquitoes, the rooms are free of it, but if you are outside, there is a good chance to get bitten. i killed a moskie while having breakfast one morning. dont worry, its not like a whole army of them, just a few here and there that got in via the open pool area, most likely. but for that very reason, i dont eat outside, i stay in aircon.
