My European vacation had been in the works for a while, I just didn’t know that I would do it through Contiki tours. Originally, I was just going to grab my backpack, buy a Eurorail pass and set out on my own. But, with limited time, I decided doing a tour would allow me to see as much as possible in my timeframe, therefore, I chose a 23 day European Vista tour, through Contiki. It turned out to be a fantastic decision!

DAY 20- Prague to St. Goar

Another travel day, this time stopping in St. Goar, Germany on our way to Amsterdam. Everyone’s feeling a bit subdued by this time, as we only have one stop after this one, then the tour ends. The past two weeks has absolutely flown by, after the slowest week ever to start the tour!

Even with a full day to get there, we were still late for our 6:30 Rhine River cruise by 15 minutes. Lucky for us, they held the boat. The cruise was nice. It was a pretty fast boat, and we were on board for just over an hour. We were off the boat before it got dark, then headed for the hotel.

We were told before we left Prague that we would not be taking our suitcases into our St. Goar hotel- only backpacks. When we checked into our hotel, Hotel Montag, we understood why.

There were no elevators- only stairs Dragging suitcases up those would have been a pain in the ass! Once checked in, we immediately ate dinner at the hotel, then left for the wine tasting, which was optional. The wine tasting was really fun, with lots of laughter involved. We tasted three different wines while seated at our table, the non the way out got to try the ice wine. Once done, Lee and I went and met up with Kerrianne, Renee, and Victoria (all of whom did not do the wine tasting) and got Joel, and went for a walk around the village, stopping for ice cream. After walking around and looking in all the shop windows (most were closed by now), we made our way back to the hotel, where we hung out in the bar, having a few drinks. It was a relatively quiet night, as finished our drinks and headed to bed. St Goar is a quaint little village with cut shops and friendly people. It was a nice overnight stop.

Hotel Montag
There are no elevators in this hotel, so you will be lugging your suitcases up the stairs if you haven’t packed your clothing in a backpack. I was on the top floor, and so thankful our tour manager had told us to bring our backpack rather than suitcases. Located right in the middle of the village (like most things here), the hotel was clean, and the staff was friendly. The room was small, cozy and comfortable, but the beds were extremely squeaky. The bar downstairs was cool, and off that, there’s a room with multiple, coin operated computers. For one night, it was a good place to stay.
