DAY 2- London

The flight to London ended up being uneventful, which is a good thing. Once through customs, I made my way to Russell Square on the tube. From that station, I made my way on foot to my hotel, The Imperial. By the time I checked in and showered, it was time to head the London Coffee (which is in the courtyard of the Royal National Hotel) to meet the tour manager and tour mates. At the meeting were given information about our tour baggage and departure times for the next morning. After giving our tour manager, Josh, our information, it was free time. I ended up meeting another Canadian pair of friends who were doing the same tour as me, so together, we decided to get a couple drinks at The London Pub. There, we met some of our other tour mates, and decided to find somewhere to eat dinner. We didn’t walk very far, before we found a pub to stop at. We also chose this one because Nathan and Dan had already eaten here the day before. The fish and chips were great! I wish I remembered the name of this place, though. We left when we were finished eating, and headed back to The London Pub. We ended up staying at the pub for about five hours, just talking and drinking. And boy, did we drink! I had heard from other friends that had done Contiki that there was a lot of drinking involved. If this first night was any indication to come, we were all in for one big, drunken party! At around midnight, we all decided that it was time for bed, as the next morning was going to be an early one. I walked back to the Imperial Hotel with the two other Canadians that I had met. I learned that amongst the Contiki travelers, it’s mainly the Aussies that get put up at the Royal National Hotel, and the others get the Imperial Hotel. Any overflow goes to the Tavistock. Any apprehension I had had about the people I’d be traveling had disappeared, as the people I met that first night were great! Now, I just had to meet my roommate….

Main expenses (in British pounds):

Hotel- included in the tour

Dinner- 12.50

Alcohol- Totally lost track (I think pints of beer were around 3 pounds where we were)

Tube ride from Heathrow to the hotel- Included in the tour
