after our idiotic moments of adventure at dettifoss and selfoss waterfalls, it was time to head and drive to the east to complete our roadtrip circle in iceland! it was our 6th day of roadtrip - so many places weve already seen despite of little time! weve left behind the glaciers and the icebergs in the south and the fjords in the east - now were in the north and the landscape just changed drastically and dramatically.
still driving through the tundra desert - i sat at the back with ian and dave was still on the wheels with mark on the front.i got hungry - a bit and munched some cheedar cheese and i opened a pack of doritos (yes thats how healhty we were lol) and put it in the middle so we can all share it.
as drove further - i dont really know what to expect - as ive said before - the rest of the trip was in the hands of the ass killa (landrover defender) - our lead car.
after some minutes of driving - the sun finally shone! and in the horizon - we could see smoke coming out from hills - hmmmm what could that be?! i looked at the crappy map from the car rental company (which would in the end i would learn to love).
as we got near it - it was amazing to see smoke coming out from hill and mountain holes! and it was strange because even if the sun WAS shining, it was raining! arrrrghhhh. the ass killa parked and so's the bandit and the little shit lada followed through. when i got out - it was..... oh my god! it was the pictures ive seen from christian's aerial shots of the eart back in copenhagen! this was it! this place was also in lots of documentaries of earth which i saw in national geographic and discovery channel!!!!!! but i hate it - it was raining and i am having a hard time adjusting the camera settings - if i adjust it to sunny, its blurry because of wet marks, if i adjust it to cloudy - its yellowish because its sunny arrrrghhhhhh - if i auto it its dark - couldnt find the right balance to it! and i dont want to let my cam stay longer in the rain coz i dont want it to be damaged just like the other 5 ones in my past trips.
when we all got out - wilmke was the first person to explore the area - she walked by herself around the park. standing there, it felt like we were in another planet! yes it stank because of the sulfur - but it was amazing! i could sense and feel and hear that the earth is alive! the boiling mudpools burst bubbles of mud. the landscape was also unbelievable - if the desert landscape around dettifoss looked like "rusting iron" here at the sulfur pits and the surrounding hills - it looked like mars! it had reddish and yellowish tinge that i couldnt explain - complete with sunrise and rain - it made it even more bizaare.
i was taking pics of a small sulfur stream thats making its way out of a mudpool when mike bended and about to maybe dip his fingers into the sulfuric water and i told him no! lol its boiling! it would probably burn him! lol hahahaha
the other guys were having fun around a vent of steam coming out from a small crater-like rock and i swear i saw dave put his pants down.
it was no use for me to take pics - since i know it wont come out good - so i just enjoyed myself looking at how the earth "breathes". then the rain really began to pour in BROAD DAYLIGHT and everyone headed to the car - it was early afternoon - and we still have a long distance to go to!
