arriving in gullfoss after having some laughs and idiotic moments in geysir - it was soooo dark! you know this kind of dark thing when there is only shades of blue and black?! the rain has stopped eventually and unbelievably - the sky got clearer - but it was uuugggggghhhh - dark!
it was decided on a spur of the moment that we head to gullfoss, instead of turning and driving back south to find a camping place. parking the cars and getting out - no doubt, the sound of the water gushing from the falls could be heard! packed with dslr cameras - we tried to take pics of the falls and only big matt rather quitely succeeded in doing so!
big matt borrowed my tripod for him to steady the cam and i told him to use it as long he likes because my lens is not good enough to take pics in darkness.
so after hanging and milling around the falls it was time to let go and find our first wild camping spot for the night! hand in hand with maike we went together going back up the parking lot and looked at they sky! it seemed that the clouds formed some kind of northern lights shape!!!! me and maike chatted excitedly and the possibility of seeing the northenr lights that day! the guys gathered in front of the resto - i thought were going to have a few drinks there - i was wrong - the resto was closed though lol apprently - they were voting because some wanted to stay and see the waterfall in the morning, others wanted to go down south because we have a morning glacier hike schedule at 10:30 am.
staying means that we have to wake up and drive very early like 6:00 am! to be able to arrive at sólheimajökull glacier on time! no way im getting up that early! lol so i voiced out my opinion and i said there are still many waterfalls in iceland and we will see the biggest of all dettifoss in the north. so the unanymous decision?! drive as south as we can to find a wild camping spot!
